Attorney David Cheng serves as guest judge in the Thomas Tang Moot Court Tournament held at the DeKalb County Courthouse. The moot court tournament helps law students practice their oral argument skills arguing law and policy before judges. Judge Tang was the first Chinese American appointed to the federal judiciary in Phoenix, Arizona. Judge Tang was appointed to the federal bench by President Jimmy Carter. The tournament is named in Judge Tang's honor.

Instead, they take out a 0% interest mortgage with Habitat for Humanity and they must spend 300 hours building the house along with volunteers.

On April 21, 2015, Attorney David Cheng and other members of the Georgia State Bar organized Law Day 2015 for Atlanta high school students. Law Day 2015 celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, a legal document from 11th Century England upon which the fundamental principles of our Constitution was based. The right to a trial by jury is one of such fundamental principles. APS students participated in a mock trial before the Hon. Judge McBurley of the Superior Court of Fulton County Georgia. The Judge and volunteer attorneys alike were thoroughly impressed with the students' performance.

Open Hand Atlanta seeks to tackle the chronic health problems many Americans face one day at a time through home-delivered meals and nutrition education. It seeks to eliminate disability and death to disadvantaged individuals due to poor nutrition . On March 23, 2015, Attorney David Cheng and other members of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association prepared food packages for Open Hand Atlanta which consisted of apportioning meats, fruits, and vegetables. On April 22, 2014, Attorney David Cheng and other members of the Georgia State Bar organized Law Day 2014 for Atlanta high school students. APS students participated in interactive sessions where they learned about the American Democratic system and their civic responsibility to vote. Sessions included exercises demonstrating the history of voting rights and efforts to block the minority vote. The Fulton County Department of Voting Registration and Elections was on site with real voting machines which gave APS students the unique opportunity to cast mock votes.

Attorney David Cheng Teaches Constitutional Law at Middle School
Attorney David Cheng visited Jean Childs Young Middle School to teach its students about the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution. David Cheng gave a one hour interactive lecture on the history of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the checks and balances system, federalism, and the role of lawyers under the Sixth Amendment. The students were engaged, inquisitive, and asked many questions. It was a delightful experience for students and lawyers alike and many laughs were shared. Highlights of the day include the students’ synchronized recitation of police officers’ Miranda warnings when tested on the subject. The teachers and Mr. Cheng were thoroughly impressed.
September 17th is Constitution Day, and Attorney David Cheng visited Jean Childs Young Middle School as part of a program coordinated by the National Bar Association. More than 300 students participated in the program in the Atlanta metro area, and more than 10,000 students participated nationally.
